How to use the Pharma Photo digital photo service for online passport renewals

Now that you have located an approved Department of Foreign Affairs pharmacy ID photo provider, you will need to follow the steps below to ensure that your photo meets the Passport standards.

Preparing for your photo to be taken…

1. Ensure your facial features are clearly visible, hair should not cover any part of the eyes.
2. Glasses can be worn in your photo, provided the frame is not covering any part of your eyes and there is no glare on the lenses. Dark glasses are not permitted.
3. If you wear a head covering for religious reasons or medical reasons, it is permitted to wear it in your passport photo only if full facial features are clearly visible. Head accessories other than for religious or medical purposes cannot be worn.
4. Make sure your expression is neutral, you are not smiling and your mouth is closed.
5. Do not tilt your head up/down or left/right. Look straight into the camera.
6. For child application photos – please ensure your child has a neutral expression (not smiling, eyes open and mouth closed) and they are not wearing headwear or accessories (unless it is for religious or medical reasons).

Starting your online application…

1. Your photo will be sent for attaching to your application on the Irish Passport application website. www.dfa.ie/passportonline Terms and Conditions are available for review on the DFA website.
2. Start your application process by selecting the correct renewal options.
3. When confirming you have a photo, select Photo Code from the available options and then Pharma Photo from the list of approved Digital Photo Provider.

Attaching the photo to your online Passport renewal application…

1. You will now be re-directed to the Pharma Photo website to recover and attach your photo.
2. Enter your 22 alpha-numeric code from your receipt into the boxes on the website.
3. Your photo will be retrieved and attached to your application.
4. Confirm the photo shown is of you, agree to the Terms and Conditions along with giving Pharma Photo permission to transfer the photo to the online renewal service.
5. Press ‘Transfer’ to continue with your DFA application.
